Cypress Creek Community Coalition (CCCC) Community activist group that is working to improve the Cypress Creek Parkway (FM 1960) area. A no nonsense group that wants to bring a positive change. Their focus is on what this area can become rather than what hasn't been done right. Their slogan is, "We get things done!" Here is a recent article regarding their first meeting. The Cypress Creek Community Coalition, co-chaired by Larry Lipton and Doug Mathes, held their third meeting Nov. 18 at the Bammel Church of Christ at 2700 F.M. 1960 and Fritz Oak Road.
The meeting focused primarily on strategic revitalization options, but also included updates on crime initiative from Constable Ron Hickman and Sheriff’s Office Major Ronnie Silvio.
Lipton said finances have been a major challenge for local law enforcement.
“They are functioning with about 18 percent less budget,” Lipton said.
Even with the budget tightening, local law enforcement has still had some success in controlling crime, especially in decreasing burglary of motor vehicle crimes, said Lipton.
In the constable’s presentation, Hickman said his department and the sheriff’s have coordinated efforts to increase visibility on the F.M. 1960 corridor to attack aggravated robberies as well as BMVs.
“Our efforts in parking lots and businesses along this area are having an effect that we hope will be lasting,” Hickman said.
The CCCC has been working with law enforcement and community volunteers on a number of issues they see as negatively impacting the area, i.e. criminal activity, bandit signs, burglary of motor vehicles, panhandlers, abandoned buildings.
Community education is also a major priority, both to help citizens protect themselves from becoming victims of crime as well as deterring criminal activity overall.
Renaissance 1960, in conjunction with a hired consulting firm, Spillette Urban Planning Real Estate and Development, presented their analysis on revitalization options for the F.M. 1960 corridor. Their research also took account of the current economic trends in the area.
Their report concluded that a public funded organization would be the best direction to take. They presented three principal choices: Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ); Public Improvement District (PID); or a Municipal Management District (MMD).
